Biography

Mark McDermott was born in England in 1968 and immigrated to Canada with his family when he was 6 years old. As with most children, his love for drawing started early by copying cartoons and quickly progressed into winning art and poster competitions. Several years after graduating, Mark discovered a three-year program at Capilano College which turned out to be a per fect mix of technical skills and creativity.

Since graduating, Mark’s Art Directing career took off with a wide range of exciting clients, including: Pepsi, Whistler/Blackcomb, Intrawest, Electronic Arts and Honda. Still looking to pursue his fine art interests, he maintained an active sketchbook and turned his interests to pencil, watercolor and acrylic sketches. An enthusiastic friend turned out to be the catalyst to move toward oils and he immediately had a connection with this classic and challenging medium.

Inspired by masters such as Vermeer, Sargent, Whistler and Klimt, Mark constantly looks to challenge himself and improve his skill with every painting he does.
